Community Partner Sites
In addition to providing classes at our arts and youth development center, Moving in the Spirit delivers our programs to children at partner organizations throughout Metro Atlanta, including schools, homeless shelters, and recreation centers.
Through these partnerships, our teaching artists and dance/movement therapists assist children’s explorations of their self-awareness, self-confidence, emotional regulation, empathy, and social skills. Dance becomes a platform where both the physical and psychological wellness of a child can thrive through safety, support, and connection.
2024-2025 Community Partners:
Easterseals provides disability and community services through early childhood education programs.
The Boyce Ansley School provides tuition-free private schooling to children experiencing homelessness.
2024-2025 Program Partners:
Giwayen Mata
Giwayen Mata is an award-winning, dynamic, soul-stirring, all-sistah, dance, percussion, and vocal ensemble.
As part of our partnership, Artistic Director Tambra Omiyale Harris teaches West African dance to Moving in the Spirit’s performance companies and Movement Lab students.
Giwayen Mata also presents community classes on Sundays twice a month at Moving in the Spirit’s home theater, The Beam.
Set to live percussion of the djembe drum orchestra and tailored for beginning and intermediate dancers, this multi-generational class teaches fundamentals of dances from the Baga, Bambara, Malinke, and Susu people of Greater Senegambia.
We’re proud to partner with this Atlanta cultural icon! Learn more.
